Triangle United coach Taurai Mangwiro is looking forward to an improved performance when his charges return to the field in their second match of this year’s edition of the Chibuku Super Cup.
They opened the campaign with a 3-1 loss to Ngezi Platinum Stars.
It will not get any easier for Triangle as they take on FC Platinum, who thrashed topflight newcomers Whawha 6-0 at the weekend.
Triangle lifted the 2018 Chibuku Super Cup following a 2-0 win over Harare City and they are looking for yet more glory, but they will need to improve if they are to live the dream.
Mangwiro is the only coach to have won the cup twice since its inception, having first won it with Harare City in 2015.
Despite the setback, Mangwiro has remained optimistic ahead of the upcoming match against Norman Mapeza’s side and said his team will not be intimidated by the reigning Premier Soccer League champions.
“We are working on improving on areas where we fell short. We had shortcomings in the game against Ngezi Platinum Stars and I can sum it up and say we defended poorly as a team and our finishing wasn’t as sound,” Mangwiro said.

“It was the first game, always tricky coming from a lengthy lay off, but what was important was that we got back to play. We can always improve as we proceed with the tournament and we shouldn’t be intimidated. We always want to remain positive because I thought there were some positives even in defeat against Ngezi.”
Mangwiro is hoping that two of his key players, Timothy January and Tyler Mugoniwa, will recover and take part in the next match as they are nursing injuries and haven’t been able to join training so far this week.
He said everyone else in his squad was fit and ready to lead the recovery charge.
The well-travelled coach said Triangle’s fans should not panic as they had only encountered a setback in just but one math yet.
“To the fans, they shouldn’t despair, let them continue rallying behind the team. Eventually we will get there, I don’t see any reason why we should panic.”
Triangle United will clash with FC Platinum this Saturday at Mandava Stadium in a match set to kick off at 3pm.
