Upcoming hip-hop fest to market local talent

ORGANISERS of the forthcoming virtual hip-hop fiesta, Culture Clash Festival have said the event will stimulate artistes towards gaining exposure and recognition during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

ORGANISERS of the forthcoming virtual hip-hop fiesta, Culture Clash Festival have said the event will stimulate artistes towards gaining exposure and recognition during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The five-day festival that will be held from June 15 under the theme: The New Normal is set to provide a platform for artistes to display talent through performances and workshops.

Festival director Aldrian “Beefy” Harrison told NewsDay Life & Style that the event is aimed at exporting and promoting Zimbabwe’s urban culture.

“The festival is being organised by Zimbabwe Hip-hop Awards in association with Africa Hip-hop Awards which is offering assistance with programming. We are going to have industry influencers from across the continent sharing their knowledge virtually with our artistes,” he said.

“We are giving artistes this chance to showcase their talent not only in Zimbabwe, but in the region as major industry stakeholders share their ideas. Any hip-hop act can qualify to participate as long as it has hip-hop elements.”

Zimbabwe Hip-hop National Society spokesperson Russel Chawabvunza said the festival was significant in making the industry noticeable.

“Any event that helps with the visibility aspect of the genre is something positive for the culture. Zim hip-hop needs to be recognised, so each and every platform artistes get, they are also seen out there along with the culture,” he said.

Local hip-hop sensation B Rock, who previously worked with the Zimbabwe Hip-hop Committee said the event would provide up-and-coming artistes with a platform to display their flexibility and talent.

“Lots of artistes have been recording, but never got a chance to showcase,” he said.

“The world will see how hungry we are as we utilise the opportunity given to us as we work towards doing better.”
