ZIMBABWEAN Ruvimbo Samanga will represent the country during the European Development Days (EDD 21) to be held from June 15 to 16.

EDD 21 will be held as a digital forum for international co-operation and development and will this year include passionate debates on how to preserve the planet for future generations and how to tackle climate change issues.

Samanga was chosen out of 200 candidates as a young change-maker so that she could share her expertise, ideas and ambition on sustainable future development.

Samanga said she grew up in Bulawayo and became interested in space as a young girl.

“I am currently a space law and policy analyst and have been awarded with numerous awards due to my expertise, perseverance and intelligence,” she said.

In 2019, Ruvimbo launched an agri-space company that helps Zimbabwean farmers to optimise crop yields using satellite imagery.

“There are a lot of challenges in Zimbabwe and an urgent need for socio-economic development all around,” Samanga said, pointing to the food security crisis brought about by severe droughts.

“My dream is to see more African youth, especially young girls, in the African space industry,” she said.
