DeMbare target Chibuku

DYNAMOS coach Tonderai Ndiraya says he wants to break the Chibuku Super Cup jinx and collect the silverware as the Glamour Boys launch their latest assault with a match against Herentals at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

After conducting a lot of transfer business, the team has set itself a target to finally land the biggest cup in the country as it primes for a successful year.

Ndiraya believes that he has assembled a squad strong enough to go all the way.

“We want to win this cup, that’s our target. We haven’t won this cup as a club since its inception and that is a huge challenge for us,” he said.

Ahead of the Sunday match, Ndiraya noted that they faced a side that has given them problems in the past, but they are looking forward to a good start against their Harare rivals.

“Herentals have been a very difficult side for us in the past, but the last time we met each other, we won the match 3-2. We expect to really apply ourselves and get a result. What we are looking for is a good start,” he said.

The DeMbare mentor added his voice to concerns over the limited preparatory time since the players were coming from a long layoff following the COVID-19-induced lockdown last year.

“It’s not going to be easy. We haven’t had enough time to prepare for these matches and as a result, the product from the preparations we have had is really going to be compromised,” Ndiraya said.

“The quality of the matches is going to be compromised, and I would really want to urge our stakeholders and supporters to be patient with the players until they get their footing and get into the groove for quality performance.”

He said they had fixed their goalkeeping problems with the recruitment of younger goalkeepers, who have Division One experience.
