Business hails ZimInd professionalism

THE business sector has applauded the Zimbabwe Independent for its balance and credibility as it marked 25 years of existence.

Zimbabwe Independent is one of the titles under the Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) stable which also publishes the NewsDay, Southern Eye and The Standard.

Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president Henry Ruzvidzo hailed the business weekly for being consistent and factual.

He was addressing delegates at the Zimbabwe Independent 25th anniversary celebrations held in Harare early this week.

“I was vice-president for CZI for two years and have been president for the past two years and I think one of the things we appreciated the most is how the Zimbabwe Independent sort of eased our office bearers into their positions by actually featuring them right at the beginning,” Ruzvidzo said.

“It is not easy getting into these roles where suddenly you have to deal with various media houses and shape how people are going to see you as you carry out your work and I would like to thank them for the features that were done.”

He added: “Our main role as CZI is to influence the policy environment and make it more convenient for our members. We engage directly with the policymakers and over the years, we have found the Zimbabwe Independent to be a very balanced media partner, its publication is looked forward to by many businesses every week.”

Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) chief executive Chris Mugaga told guests that the Zimbabwe Independent remained principled at a time other publications have lost their way.

“For the Zimbabwe Independent, I can testify not only as the CEO of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, but also as Chris Mugaga because I have worked with the publication for many years, prior to joining the ZNCC,” he said.

“We have seen some publications lose the compass. What builds nations is a professional and independent view.

“For some of us who don’t understand any language except being honest or independent in our analysis, the moment you take a side, naturally you become irrelevant in your vision, so maintain your independence.

“I have every reason to believe that you will continue with the vision. If I walk into the newsroom today, it will be odd if I do not manage to recognise any of your staff members and this is because of the relationship we have built over years.”
