BULAWAYO-BASED African Dynasty band is shepherding a fundraising campaign to help disadvantaged diabetes patients in remote areas pay for their medication.

African Dynasty band chief executive officer Maxwell Manyama said they launched the campaign in 2018 and had so far benefited more than 12 patients.

“Both my parents died of diabetes and we felt we should give back to the community in their honour. Diabetes medication is costly, so through this initiative we do not want people to lose their loved ones because of this sickness,” he said.

“We are trying to help where we can and by God’s grace we wish to fund up to 100 patients and we will try by all means to reach that target bit by bit.”

He added: “We have been receiving donations from well-wishers and some close friends who help us in the campaign. When I have promotions at my business I take that to the campaign. Since we do not have donors, we pray we get them so that they can support the campaign.

“The band is also going on a tour soon and we plan on contributing the funds to the campaign together with some of the funds we make from our music sales.”
