NGEZI Platinum Stars yesterday unveiled former Dynamos and Black Rhinos midfielder Marvelous Mukumba as their sole new signing at a glittering player and kit presentation ceremony at Mulota Hills Golf Club in Mhondoro-Ngezi.

The football club has stepped up preparations for the 2021 season scheduled to start next month.

Mukumba is the only addition to a team that is already blessed with football talent in Wellington Taderera, Denver Mukamba, Anelka Chivandire, Gerald Takwara and Qadr Amini, among their galaxy of stars.

The club lost speedy winger Michael Charamba, who joined former champions Chicken Inn in February.

Ngezi are also looking at making more additions before the season starts, but coach Rodwell Dhlakama is on cloud nine after their latest capture.

“I think Mukumba is a marvellous signing and will bring a lot of experience as well as quality in the team. The good thing is that at Ngezi we don’t just sign players, we first look at other components and scrutinise if that player is going to gel with the philosophy before we sign,” he said.

“Every team would like to have the best players available, we have done that and we have very good players. But even if you get four years of preparing for examinations, you still want two weeks more.

“We are never satisfied, we still want one or two more players to add on. If we don’t get additional players, I still think we can do with the players at our disposal.”

The new club captain Amini, Polite Moyo, Nelson Chadya and Malvin Kwinjo modelled the 2021 kit.

Club president Stanley Segula was excited about the return of football as well as the future of the club.

“It’s exciting times coming, the journey which started five years ago before it was interrupted by COVID-19 and we are back at it again. We are very clear as a club we have to get this club to a position where it belongs,” he said.

“Our aspiration is to dominate football locally and even beyond the borders. That is the brand that we are building. We are excited that the authorities have made the season to start and we putting up the building blocks to an exhilarating season.”

Segula, along with the Ngezi Platinum Stars executive, had an opportunity to meet and address the club players and staff.

The club also played an exhibition match in front of the executive at Baobab Stadium.
