Artistes need to develop, finance own careers: Blizzy

SOUTH AFRICA-BASED hip-hop singer Talent “Blizzy” Mandizira says up-and-coming artistes should unite and create organisations that help them gain exposure, develop talent and finance their careers to expand the music industry.

The 23-year-old singer told NewsDay Life & Style that he patiently nurtured his gift until he got recognition last year, after four years of hard work behind the scenes.

“I had humble beginnings and a hard time establishing my career. I started music in 2016 when my penning took shape. Although my music rocked the airwaves, I had a long journey of trial and error,” he said.

“I started to get recognition in 2018 after I signed under an award-winning hip-hop group Team Bhoo founded by Shingirayi Maunganidze. I later became a business partner with Shingirirayi and I have discovered that if artistes join hands, they are able to learn from each other and venture into other entrepreneurial projects which will enable them to sponsor and finance their musical careers.”

Blizzy, who recently switched from Afro-beats to hip-hop music inspired by South African rapper Emtee, said there was power in unity.

“Living in a world where there are so many artistes striving and fighting to be seen, up-and-coming artistes should realise that there are a lot of challenges in the game. Therefore, artistes should create powerful forces to attract a fan base and promoters,” he said.

Blizzy’s discography includes Pfuti Ndakoka, Do You Still Love Me featuring various artistes such as Boogie Saint, Mr Flexx, Wekwampira and Tanatswa Nyanduri, At The Top featuring Ashley Mashumba and Madrinks, which was on the Team Bhoo extended play (EP).
