The deceased, Bernard Munzvengwa of Gororo village, hanged himself from a tree near his homestead.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident.

Mwanza said at around 10 o’clock in the morning, Munzvengwa wanted to go to mould bricks together with his wife.

He asked for bedroom keys from his wife because he wanted to take some mbanje left inside the house before going to work, but his wife told him she had misplaced the keys. Munzvengwa is said to have jumped onto a tree out the homestead and shouted that he was about to hang himself.

His wife ran after him but found him already hanging, and she failed to rescue him.

The matter was reported to the police and the deceased’s body was taken to Chivhu General Hospital for post-mortem.

In another matter, a Chivhu man was granted

$15 000 bail on Friday after appearing in court for illegal possession of mbanje and methamphetamine drugs.

Thembelihle Gumbo (36) who was being represented by Tafara Nsingo of Nsingo and Associates pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared before Chivhu resident magistrate Sam Chitumwa.

He was remanded to June 30, 2020 where he will be given his trial date.

Prosecutor Kumbirai Charamba told the court that on June 22 2020, police received a tip off that Gumbo was in possession of dangerous drugs.

Police raided his homestead and recovered 1kg of dagga valued $19 160, eleven 100ml bottles of BronCleer cough syrup valued $550, and nine sachets of methamphetamine whose value has not yet been ascertained. The drugs were found in different rooms at his house.
