FORMER radio personality and businesswoman, Emma Nxumalo on Saturday celebrated her 32nd birthday by donating food and clothing items to Queen Elizabeth Children’s Home and Jabulani Flats in Bulawayo as part of her #MyBabyToo initiative.

#MyBabyToo is an initiative founded last year after Nxumalo decided to give back to the community.

The businesswoman, who was part of the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) 2019 fashion police crew, said it was heartbreaking to hear people say food has become a luxury.

“I went to give to Jabulani Flats and Queen Elizabeth Children’s Home especially during COVID-19. It has become even worse because most children here are supported by their grannies who used to sell tomatoes on the streets and now they are locked down and have lost their source of income,” she said.

Jabulani Flats residents’ chair, Pamela Mackay, said they met Nxumalo through the Feed the City programme and they were grateful for the donation.

“People are going through a really difficult time…. We got some children who are less privileged and don’t go to school. We have an issue where one child has resorted to stealing because he doesn’t go to school and it’s very bad,” she said.

“However, we say happy birthday to Emma and thank you so much.”
