His son, Cornelius Mhunga, confirmed the news last night, saying his father passed on at his home in Rhodene suburb after being bedridden for years following a stroke.

“He passed on at home this afternoon about an hour after coming to see the doctor,” Cornelius said.

At his peak, Tavaruva was one of the biggest employers in Masvingo as he had a huge fleet of buses that plied most of the country’s highways.

Cornelius said burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
