Chinese-owned Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare yesterday dismissed reports that it might have guests infected with the deadly coronavirus.

Speaking at a Press conference at the hotel, general manager Celia Woo said business at the facility had gone down after circulation of the false rumours about the coronavirus on social media.

She said they had already banned Chinese and other people coming from areas affected by coronavirus.

“Business has gone down at the hotel because of speculation about coronavirus. There are people who are saying there is coronavirus at the hotel,” Celia said.

“Our food is safe, and we have Zimbabwean chefs. One thing you need to know is that not every Chinese eats dogs and snakes. Our food is Zimbabwean. We buy our raw materials in Zimbabwe. We are only two Chinese here at the hotel now, but we want to assure you that we don’t have the virus.”

The hotel’s marketing manager Mathew Takura said they had put in place measures to guarantee the health and safety of clients.
