A BRAVE Karoi shop owner foiled an armed robbery by clobbering one of the suspects with his own weapon.

The suspected armed robber, Trust Cholenda is now nursing injuries after being smashed by an iron bar he intended to use on the shop owner Edmore Gora at Karereshi rural shopping centre on Thursday morning.

Cholenda, known as Mudzukwe, appeared before Karoi magistrate Godswill Mavenge on Saturday facing armed robbery charges under Section 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. He was remanded in custody to February 13.

Prosecutor Reginald Chawora opposed bail, saying he is facing a serious offence.

The State outline is that the accused and three accomplices, who are still at large, went to complainant Edmore Gora’s shop armed with a gun and iron bars intending to rob him.

“When they got to the shop they demanded that complainant hands over cash and a firearm they suspected he had. Complainant managed to grab an iron bar from accused and went on to hit accused with (it to defend) himself. Complainant kept fighting and was eventually struck with an axe on the head by the other accused, who is at large. The other three accused fled, leaving their accomplice who was badly injured. He was apprehended by members of the public,” the State outline read.
