Twenty-seven people were yesterday seriously injured after a Zupco bus they were travelling in veered off the road and landed on its side in Beatrice.

The bus had 67 passengers on board and was travelling from Zvishavane to Harare.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the accident.

“The report we have is that the driver lost control of the bus, veered off the road before it landed on its side. Investigations are still in progress and there were no casualties,” he said.

The injured were ferried to Beatrice Hospital. The Harare-Beitbridge Highway has become a death trap due to its narrowness, while it is littered by potholes at some sections.

The accident comes after seven people died when another Zupco bus was involved in an accident in Kwekwe on Monday.
