ZIMBABWE yesterday joined the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in its 48th national day celebrations for the first time after the Middle East country opened its embassy in Harare last month.

Addressing delegates, UAE ambassador Jassim Al Qasimi said they were working on strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Zimbabwe also opened an embassy in the UAE last month.

“The relationship between the two countries shall strengthen as we move forward and work in different sectors. This is a big opportunity to develop the relationship between our two countries,” Al Qasimi said.

The ambassador said the UAE has planned strategically through foresight to anticipate and analyse future opportunities and challenges in vital fields and execute long-term pre-emptive plans to achieve national goals using modern technologies and harnessing them to serve the country’s people.

Foreign Affairs deputy minister David Musabayana said government was committed to strengthening and energising the already vibrant engagements.

The UAE supported Zimbabwe during the devastating Cyclone Idai-induced floods that killed hundreds of people and destroyed infrastructure early this year.
