The accused — Wadzanai Chikudza (42), Getrude Murwa (43), Gladys Masaire (42), Farai Mabhunu (30) and Bothwell Kativhu — were released on summons at the Chivhu Magistrates’ Court. They will come back to court on December 20, 2019.

Allegations are that on November 27, 2019 at around 2pm, Chikomba DDC’s office received 60 tarpaulin tents and 13 bales of second-hand clothes and shoes for the hailstorm victims from the Department of Civil Protection under issue voucher number 517715H.

Chikudza received the consignment and it was kept in Murwa’s office.

Murwa later made a police report that some unknown persons used duplicate keys to access the office and stole some of the donated items.

Police discovered that Chikudza allegedly took various items from the donated goods and invited Murwa, Masaire and Mabhunu to do the same. They used Kativhu’s car to carry their loot from the DDC premises.

On their way out, Kativhu, who was in the company of Murwa, allegedly refused to comply with the security guard’s instruction to stop his car at the gate.

The case is still being investigated under CR145/11/19.
