Zim pulls out of Miss World 2019

ZIMBABWE will not be represented at this year’s Miss World pageant at the ExCeL Arena in London in December after organisers cancelled the local event.

Miss Zimbabwe Trust administrator Lorraine Chawanda-Mukoti said reigning Miss World Zimbabwe, Belinda Potts would have her reign extended to next year.

“We can’t be celebrating when people are crying. The queen is the people’s representative, so when people are crying, she must be crying with them,” she said.

“Those cast will receive priority next year. We shall consider that others will change their minds and not want to participate, but those who stay on will be prioritised.”

Chawanda-Mukoti said they have since communicated the development to their partners and potential sponsors.

Pageant spokesperson Tendai Chirawu recently told our sister paper, The Standard, that hosting of the glamorous pageant was a difficult undertaking as it comes with a huge budget.

He said the Miss World Zimbabwe pageant was not a business, but a charity initiative.
