THEATRE organisation Patsime Trust will tomorrow launch its 200-seater Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre in Eastlea, Harare, which is expected to be used to promote growth, innovation and creativity in the arts industry.
The theatre, which has been under construction since November 2018, is the brainchild of Patsime founder and director, Jasen Mphepo.
“We are officially launching a 200-seater theatre, which has been under construction since last year. The black tie event takes place on May 8, with a guest list comprising corporates, arts organisations, universities, partners, and individuals,” he said.
“We are establishing ourselves not as rivalries, but to compliment efforts of fellow theatre houses in order to foster the arts industry’s growth. It’s an open forum; a safe space for growth, innovation and creativity for the artists. It’s going to be a hub where artists of all forms, be they dancers, singers, poets, actors, musicians, directors and producers, will converge to showcase their talents.”
Mphepo said the theatre would be used to showcase mainstream stage plays, theatre in education productions, poetry slams, dance classes, movie nights and Friday-nights live events.
The theatre, he said, would also be used to promote women’s participation in the arts through a programme that will run every Wednesday, and dubbed Women Crush Wednesday.
“We will also be running the Woman Crush Wednesday to promote women’s participation in the industry. In the same vein, we are inviting women artists, individuals and other organisations that support the participation of women in arts to come and work with us on this, as well as other projects that will follow,” Mphepo said.
