A MAN from Zvishavane allegedly grabbed a female drinking mate while they were walking back home, raped and strangled her before throwing her body into a sewage stream.

This was reaveled to Zvishavane provincial magistrate Shepherd Mjanja on Wednesday when Daniel Simango (40) appeared before him, charged with murder.

Simango was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to April 24.

Prosecutor Taurai Muzvimwe told the court that on April 7 at 12 midnight Stella Moyo, who is now deceased, was attacked while going home. On arrival at a bridge between Mandava and Highlands suburbs, Simango grabbed Moyo and dragged her off the road, before raping her.

It is alleged that he then strangled her, leading to her death. Simango allegedly tied her hands at the back with her sweater and threw the body into a sewage stream to conceal the offence.

On the same day, at around 2pm, Moyo’s body was retrieved by the police from the sewer stream and was found without shoes and panties. Investigations made by the police, led to Simango’s arrest.
