A 19-YEAR-OLD Mberengwa man has been arraigned before a Gweru magistrate facing attempted murder charges arising from machete violence.

Joesph Ndabare (19) of Vanguard compound in Mberengwa was not asked to plead when he appeared before regional magistrate Phatekile Msipa on Thursday.

Charges are that on August 24 last year, at around midnight, Ndabare and his friend Casipa Kasimure, who is still at large, broke into complainant Philemon Mthetwa’s house.

They woke him up and accused him of spelling bad luck on their gold panning business. The two, armed with machetes, severely assaulted the complainant who sustained serious deep cuts on the forehead and right foot.

The complainant also suffered a fractured arm. The matter was reported to the police, leading to arrest of Ndabare, who has since been remanded in custody to May 3.

Talent Tadenyika appeared for the State.

Matters of machete violence are on the increase in Midlands and are spreading countrywide amid revelations perpetrators often get impunity through their connections to political heavyweights.
