A BEITBRIDGE maid allegedly aided the rape of a seven-year-old minor child by her friend, while her employer was in South Africa, a Beitbridge court heard this week.

The 19-year-old maid from Kambuzuma, Harare, together with her two co-accused, both of New Round About, Beitbridge, appeared before Beitbridge regional magistrate Crispen Mberewere on Wednesday, charged with rape.

They were not asked to plead to the charge and were remanded in custody to April 23 for trial.

The prosecutor, Munyonga Kuvarega, told the court that sometime in February this year, the girl’s mother went to South Africa, leaving her two minor children in the custody of the maid.

The court heard that the minor was raped on three occasions, once in the presence of the maid and her boyfriend and on another occasion at the instigation of the maid, who then quit her job and returned to Harare.

The minor started experiencing health problems and was taken to hospital. A medical examination showed that she had been sexually abused.

A report was made to the police, whose investigations led to the arrest of the trio.
