A 34-YEAR-OLD Kwekwe man was slapped with a two-year jail term yesterday for breaking into Kaguvi Primary School headmaster’s office and stealing goods worth ZWR$597.

Alfred Gumbo (34) of plot number 47 Lozani, Kwekwe, pleaded guilty to the charges before Kwekwe magistrate Story Rushambwa, who slapped him with 24 months jail term, of which six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Freddy Ndoro told the court that on April 25, around 11am, Gumbo broke into the headmaster’s office after he forced open the door.

Upon entering the office, he stole exercise books, textbooks and a soccer ball.

He was seen carrying the stolen property by a security guard who arrested and handed him to the police.

In mitigation, Gumbo told the court that he was a breadwinner and earned ZWR$300 per month and so pleaded for a non-custodial sentence.

However, the magistrate did not accept his plea since he was salaried and had committed the offence out of greed.
