AT least six people died in two separate bus accidents which occurred in Makuti and Rutenga between Wednesday and yesterday afternoon.
The Makuti accident involved a Zanbia-bound Trip Trans bus which veered off the road and landed on its side, killing three people on the spot while the fourth one died on admission to Nyamakete Clinic along the Harare-Chirundu Highway on Wednesday night.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.
“The ZRP confirms that a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on April 17, 2019, at around 2030hrs at the 276km-peg along the Harare-Chirundu Highway, where four people were killed,” he said.
“Circumstances are that a Trip Trans bus with 31 passengers on board was travelling towards Chirundu when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the bus to veer off the road and land on its left side,” Nyathi said.
Police sources in Beitbridge said two people died on the spot and several others were injured, some seriously, when a Mlaudzi bust travelling from South Africa to Harare crashed 10 kilometres after Rutenga yesterday afternoon. Although details of the accident were still sketchy, it is understood conductors of the bus were the most injured.
“Two people are known to have died. The bus was coming from South Africa. Conductors of the bus were among the seriously injured,” a police source said.
