A SERIAL Beitbridge carjacker has been locked up in remand prison following a string of robberies targeting motorists in the border town.

Reason Mambo Moyo (23) was not asked to plead to robbery when he appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Crispen Mberewere yesterday.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to March 18 for trial.

Prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega told the court that on August 20, 2018 at around 3am, taxi driver, Aleck Kakono was seated inside his Honda Fit vehicle near Kalahari Sports Bar in Beitbridge looking for clients when Moyo approached him seeking a ride to his home.

He later robbed him of the vehicle and sped away towards Bulawayo. He was later involved in an accident and abandoned the vehicle at the scene.

He took the car keys, Kakono’s mobile phone and $10. Kakono filed a report at the Beitbridge police.

Moyo is also alleged to have robbed Akan Gwayendepi of another Honda Fit and $130, but was later arrested.

The cars were recovered.
