TWO Plumtree boys have been arrested for allegedly brutally assaulting a 15-year-old girl for double-crossing them and recording the attack on a mobile phone.
The pair recorded a video of the beatings, which they later shared on social media, where it went viral and attracted widespread condemnation from social media users.
Police tracked the duo to Plumtree, where they were eventually arrested for assault, with one of them now facing rape charges.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Philisani Ndebele yesterday confirmed the arrest of the two, but did not release their names to protect the identity of the minor.
“I confirm that we managed to track and arrest the suspects. They are supposed to appear in court today (yesterday),” Ndebele said.
However, inquiries with the prosecutor in charge Plumtree, Robin Mukura, yesterday showed that the pair had not yet been brought to court.
According to a source close to the case, the boys were in a relationship with the same girl and they discovered that she was double-crossing them.

The source added that the boys then hatched a plan to fix her and one of them called her to meet at a secluded place.
“When she arrived, both of them were at the scene. The pair then confronted her and ordered the girl to lie on the ground and took turns to assault her with a switch. She sustained bruises on her back,” the source said.
The girl was taken to hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
A medical report has also been compiled.
