THE National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) in Bulawayo will tomorrow host a group exhibition by lecturers and students from Great Zimbabwe University’s Robert Mugabe School of Education and the Culture Department’s Technical Education, Art and Design section.
The inaugural exhibition by the institution dubbed Between the Rocks and the Flag, set to be held at the Anglo-American Gallery from March 29 to April 30, is curated jointly by the gallery and the university.
The gallery’s acting regional director, Cliford Zulu, said the exhibition was an illustration of a range of emotions.
“It serves the cultural, artistic, socio-cultural, socio-economic and the dynamisms in all realms of life in Zimbabwe. The joy, anguish, anxiety and hope are well illustrated visually in this great exhibition where the ancient meets the modern and the contemporary,” he said.
“The exhibition features works of GZU art lecturers and students. It comprises paintings in oils, water colour, drawings, multi-media, photography, sculpture stone and wood, textiles and graphic designs all thought provoking.”
Zulu said five artists would be showcasing their works at the Anglo-American Gallery at the NGZ in Bulawayo.
“These artists are Joseph George Mupondi a lecturer in the department, Tinos L M Ndirowei an all-round artist exhibiting paintings, sculpture stone and wood and photography. Rumbidzai Tirimboyi, a senior technician in the department will showcase a multi-media art. Liberty Munyanyiwa, a student and multi-talented artist, will showcase paintings, graphic designs and textile designs while Alice Zvarimwa will specialise in capturing moments and her area of specialisation is photography,” he said.
