Police in Sadza have arrested a 24-year-old suspected mental patient who fatally stabbed his father with a spear, accusing him of failing to provide $500 for his school fees.

Finish Kambarami, of Gonomundiro village under Chief Neshangwe in Sadza, allegedly stabbed his father, Aaron Kambarami, several times during the fight.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm the tragic incident that occurred in Chivhu, where a suspected mental patient allegedly stabbed his father to death. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. We urge those who are in custody of mental patients to ensure that they take their medication regularly to avoid such incidences,” he said.

According to the police, on February 1, Finish demanded $500 from his parents because he wanted to go back to school. When the parents said they had no money, he allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to stab his mother.

The mother rushed to call neighbours for assistance, but upon return, found her husband’s body in his bedroom, lying in a pool of blood.

The matter was reported at Sadza Police Station, and Finish was arrested. The police discovered a blood-stained spear and axe handle used in committing the crime.
