A 16-YEAR-OLD boy and his 15-year-old cousin from Chiwundura have been convicted of incest by Gweru magistrate Beaulity Dube, who handed them a wholly suspended sentence.

The girl is now five months pregnant as a result of the incestuous relationship.

The cousins, who cannot not be named to protect their identities, appeared before Dube, each facing a count of having sexual intercourse within the prohibited degree of relationship.

Dube sentenced each of them to 18 months but, however, wholly suspended the punishment on account of good behaviour.

The court heard that the two minors, who are first cousins, had a sexual relationship between October last year and January this year.

The two reside at the same place and also attended the same school, with the affair coming to light after the girl’s aunt noticed physical changes and confronted her.

The girl, the court heard, disclosed to her aunt that she was dating her cousin and they had sexual intercourse.

A report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the pair.

A medical examination produced in court showed the girl was five months pregnant.
