CHIEF Chapoto, born Peter Enock Chapoto, of Mbire district in Mashonaland Central province, has died.

He died at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Monday after battling prostate cancer for a long time.

He was 70.

Provincial administrator Cosmas Chiringa confirmed the chief’s death yesterday.

“I can confirm the death of Chief Chapoto, who died on Monday afternoon at Parirenyatwa Hospital after succumbing to prostate cancer,” Chiringa said.

“Having been married to one wife Agnes Deya Chapoto, the chief left five children. His death is a big blow to the people of Kanyemba, considering all the development that he has been spearheading with the assistance of the government.”

He was appointed chief in 2005 and subsequently installed the following year.

Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
