A 24-year-old man, who was nabbed while clad in army camouflage in Marondera, has been sentenced to an effective six months in prison by Marondera magistrate Ignatius Mugova.

Tatenda Donald Chiwa of Plot 199, Beatrice Road in Harare pleaded not guilty to impersonation charges, but failed to prove that he was a member of the Zimbabwe National Army.

According to court papers, on February 6, at around midday, some soldiers who were on patrol in Dombotombo high-density suburb met Chiwa, who was clad in an army uniform and believed he was one of them.

However, upon interviewing him, the soldiers found out that Chiwa was not attested to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

He was subsequently arrested and police recovered camouflage trousers, black combat boots, camouflage jacket, camouflage sun hat and a green belt.

Chiwa’s photos of him in army uniform and handcuffs went viral on social media platforms.

Marvellous Muchacha represented the State.
