Town clerk Maxwell Kaitano said council fulfilled 80% of the requirements for consideration and was optimistic that only a few mere formalities were now left.

“We submitted our city status application well before the December 31, 2018 deadline after fulfilling 80% of the requirements. We are reliably informed that a committee is looking into our application before the minister takes it to Cabinet for approval,” he said.

Kaitano said if everything goes according to plan, the city status for Chinhoyi will be granted in the first half of this year. Chinhoyi is one of the few provincial capitals without city status.
