Maziwisa, Pambuka jailed for fraud

FORMER Zanu PF Highfield West legislator, Psychology Maziwisa and television personality Oscar Pambuka were yesterday sentenced to a total of 78 months in jail each for fraud.

BY DESMOND CHINGARANDE

Maziwisa (34) and Pambuka (33) who were facing two counts of swindling the Zimbabwe Power Corporation (ZPC) of $12 650 in a botched public relations deal, will, however serve 30 months each after Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube conditionally suspended the sentences.

Former Energy minister, Samuel Undenge, who was accused of issuing the contract without due tender, has already been sentenced to four years in jail, a sentence he is appealing.

The Magistrate said the convicts had claimed public funds from ZPC without rendering any service.

“The evidence shows that there is no work done by the accused persons because there was no contract between their company Fruitful Communications and ZPC.”
Michael Reza appeared for the State.

  1. oscar is a polished tv presenter its very unfortunate

  2. 6 years, that seems heavy in comparison to this……Zanu PF’s Chimukoko Ward 3 chairperson, David Chimukoko and his secretary Graciano Kazingizi were sentenced to four years, of which one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour in jail, for the 2012 murder of 67 year old Cephas Magura, the MDC Ward 1 Chairperson. This selective justice does not look well for this compromised judiciary.

    1. Corrections. The incident that happened at Chimukoko business Centre took place in 2008 during the presidntial run-off. The judge or magistrate was correct in his sentencing cause the two did not directly kill the old man but they were the officials present. There was crowd trouble with resulted in the MDC vehicle speeding of resulting in the old man falling off and died. of cause the was pelting of stone and public violence. Some of the accused who died during remand never took part in the fracas but we detained coz they were the ward officials present.

  3. why WASTE TIME ON TWUNZUNGU , Obert Mpofu is walking free apo he misappropriated billions of state funds.Justice should prevail regardless of one’s political affiliation.Ana Pambuka ava who stole tuma small amnts ndivo navo sikasika.Kushinga kurapa mhopo pamusana apo une ziso rine mbonje.Ngavatibvire apo. They should have justice meted out equally.

  4. Chakachaya gire rino. saka vatopinda mu’inside’ here. PM will have a time full of funny inside with the guys there.

  5. Maybe direly needed is more credible national stance against CORRUPTION.
