According to court papers, Ngwenya is said to have signed an acknowledgement of debt on April 16, 2018, but since then failed to make good the debt, prompting the mobile network service provider to approach the court for recourse.

The court papers, however, do not make clear the nature of the business deal between Econet and Ngwenya whose address is provided as 2830 Chinotimba Township, Victoria Falls.

“On April 16, 2018 the defendant (Ngwenya) executed an acknowledgement of debt in favour of plaintiff (Econet). The material terms of the acknowledgement of debt are; that the defendant is indebted to the plaintiff in the amount of $219 640, 42. The above amount shall accrue interest at the prime overdraft rate charged by Steward Bank,” Econet Wireless said.

“The defendant is in breach of the acknowledgment of debt in that he has failed to pay the above amount within two months from April 16, 2018.”

The matter is pending.
