Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the accident and said that the truck driver, who fled from the scene of the accident, was still at large.

“I can confirm a fatal accident which killed two children aged 5 and 7 on the spot, the driver of a Century truck company registration number ADZ 5113 is at large after he fled from the scene,” Masikati said.

The police suspected that the truck driver failed to observe traffic rules by trying to overtake at a narrow bridge.

“We have a lot of drivers who are fleeing from accident scenes and causing deaths due to unavailability of help, drivers should report their cases to the police or hospitals so as to save life,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Harare-bound CAG bus reportedly overturned at Mandindi Farm in Mvurwi yesterday. Several people who were injured were ferried to a local hospital for treatment.
