Francis Saungweme (25) appeared before Mutare magistrate Tendai Mahwe.

According to prosecutor Fletcher Karombe, on August 27 at around 10:30pm, a female police officer was assigned to escort the accused person to Mutare General Hospital after he claimed that he was not feeling well.

It is the State’s case that after the accused received medical attention, the police officer escorted him to Mutare Central Police Station.

Upon arrival at Mutare Central Police Station entrance, the accused ran away.

The police officer ran after him with the help of one Mlambo, who was just passing by and they managed to apprehend the accused person at the corner of Aerodrome and Fourth Street.

Saungweme was initially facing unlawful entry charges.
