MDC ALLIANCE Matabeleland North provincial management committee members and Victoria Falls councillors have been summoned to appear before party leader Nelson Chamisa in Harare today.

“All Victoria Falls and provincial management committee members are invited to attend a meeting with the president on Wednesday 19 September, 2018 at Morgan Tsvangirai House,” part of the letter sent to the councillors by the party’s provincial committee member, Farai Chinobva read.

Ward 10 councillor, Nkanyiso Sibindi confirmed receiving the letter, adding that it was likely the urgent meeting was to discuss the September 7 Victoria Falls mayoral elections.

The 11 councillors in the resort town allegedly defied a party directive to elect ward 1 councillor Margaret Varley as the mayor and ward 9 councillor Somvelo Dhlamini as the deputy.

Councillors instead elected Dhlamini as mayor.

The party’s provincial secretary, Mxolisi Ndlovu, last week summoned the councillors to the party’s offices in Hwange, but failed to resolve the impasse.
