Youth league celebrates Zanu PF victory

ZANU PF youth league in Mashonaland East is today expected to launch President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory celebrations despite MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s Constitutional Court (ConCourt) petition, seeking to overturn his narrow win against him.

The ruling party had previously stopped its supporters to put on ice the celebrations until Mnangagwa’s inauguration.

However, the inauguration could not be held on August 12 as had been planned after Chamisa approached the ConCourt challenging the presidential election results.

Zanu PF has now lined up “street celebrations” across the country, with Mashonaland East pencilled for today before moving to Masvingo tomorrow, where youths are expected to meet at Mupandawana Growth Point in Gutu for a street march.

According to a circular send to Zanu PF youths in Mashonaland East, the celebrations would be characterised by youths celebrating in the streets.

“You are advised of Zanu PF youth league celebrations, which shall be street celebration following our poll victory,” the circular which has now gone viral on social media, said.

“Venue is Mashonaland East Provincial headquarters, Marondera, 1200hrs, August 18, 2018. You are requested to be there in numbers.”

Mashonaland East provincial youth league boss Kelvin Mutsvairo confirmed the celebrations, claiming Mnangagwa “clearly” won the elections.

“The celebrations are on tomorrow (today) in Marondera at the provincial party headquarters. We are expecting massive turnout and have already secured musicians to perform at the event. We are celebrating the victory by our leader, Comrade Mnangagwa, who led peaceful polls,” Mutsvairo said.

Mnangagwa won with 50,8% ahead of Chamisa’s 44,4%. However, Chamisa approached the courts citing massive rigging on the July 30 elections that also saw Zanu PF winning a two thirds majority in Parliament.
