Lorraine Maningi and her daughter Precious Mateyaunga (12) died after consuming the poison while two of her other children are currently admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital where they are reportedly in a critical condition.

Mashonaland East provincial acting police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident and urged people to respect the sanctity of life.

“It is sad to report that a juvenile has lost her life with two others battling for their lives at a local hospital. We urge people to exercise restraint during domestic disputes to avoid such inconsiderate,” he said.

According to police, on Sunday, Maningi had a domestic dispute with her husband Courageous Muteyaunga (38) over an undisclosed issue.

It is reported that she then decided to end her life and that of her three children while her husband was away at work. She allegedly shared a poisonous substance with them, killing herself and daughter Tadiwa (16).

After they had all drunk the poison, Maningi allegedly locked the bedroom door from inside, hid the keys and lay on the floor together with her children.

The deceased’s bodies were later discovered by a relative, one Dudzai Nyamusungari who then reported the matter at Goromonzi Police Station.

Police recovered a bottle of poison labelled “roach kill” in the room.
