Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, principal resident commissioner Shri Jyoti Kalash said the Indian delegation was happy with the manner in which the elections were conducted and would borrow some of the positives they managed to pick.

“We are not supporting any political party or candidate. We are here on an unbiased approach and whatever the outcome of the election, people have to respect that.

“Whichever government that comes into power should be peace-minded in addition to respecting the people’s mandate if a new government comes into power,” Shri Jyoti Kalash added.
The Indian official said Zimbabwe had potential for growth and the facilities to jump-start the economy were readily available.

He promised to engage Indian businesses to invest in Zimbabwe regardless of the outcome of the elections.

“Zimbabwe is beautiful and has a lot of potential. We are going to interact with the Indian committee back in our country on potential and many opportunities to explore here. The facilities are there and we would like many companies to come and invest in Zimbabwe in agriculture, mining and many others,” Kalash said.

Indian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Rungsung Masakui said his government would support whoever wins the elections and commended the peaceful environment that prevailed during the polls.

The Indian observer delegation urged the Zimbabwe Election Commission to improve its systems and engage the government and election management body of India to improve its administration of elections.
