Ndumiso Mlilo was remanded in custody to September 4 when he appeared before Lupane magistrate Ndumo Masuku.

Allegations are that Mlilo bludgeoned Fanet Ndlovu (41) last Tuesday at St Luke’s business centre after going to Silibaziso Store to buy a soft drink.

After a few moments, it is alleged that Mlilo went back into the shop armed with two stones and an iron bar and accused Ndlovu of refusing to sell him soya chunks last year, before accusing Ndlovu of being pompous.

The accused allegedly hit Ndlovu with a stone before attacking him with an iron bar on the legs and head until he lost consciousness. Shop teller Ketty Mhlanga fled and sought help and Mlilo charged at people who tried to restrain him.

He was later apprehended by members of the neighbourhood watch committee who then rendered first aid to Ndlovu, but he died upon admission to St Luke’s Hospital.
