Masvingo roads get facelift ahead of ED rally

THE cash-strapped Masvingo City Council (MCC) has started sprucing up its road network ahead of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaign rally tomorrow.

The Zanu PF leader is expected to address a rally at an open ground outside Mucheke Stadium.

The rally comes hardly a week after his rival MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa addressed four star rallies in the province.

Since Tuesday, council workers were patching up roads leading to Mucheke Stadium.

Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze, however, denied suggestions that the road rehabilitation exercise was politically motivated.

“That is a routine exercise which may, however, coincide with the President’s visit. The programme was already on the table whether the President was coming here or not,” he said.

This is not the first time that the local authority has spruced up city roads ahead of a visit by top government officials.

The practice was rampant during the era of former President Robert Mugabe.

  1. VICTIM OF TRAFFICKING

    Isnt it an MDC council??

  2. Why do we tend to act when the President is visiting a place? Why do we misrepresent to His Excellency that things are normal yet they are not? Let him see and know facts on the ground so that he can make informed decisions. This practice was also rampant during the Previous dispensation, where the President was even misled to believe that ‘vanhu vese vachirikundida.’only to be wake up one day and find out that ‘vanhu havachada.’

    1. TELL HIM TO GET RID OF MUGABE CONSTITUTION NOW

        1. People like @SIMBA have no idea @Siya. If you are from Australia why comment on local Zim news esp. when so ignorant about such news.

  3. You have changed your tune. You used to say get rid of Mugabe’s constitution and replace it with the British. Why are you so bitter about it.In most cases it’s the implementation that’s the problem. I am sick and tired of you saying the same thing. You sound not very happy where you are.
