The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has refuted reports that it has found Harare lawyer, Francis Chirimuuta guilty of looting $146 000 from the estate of fellow lawyer, the late George Chikumbirike.

In a statement, LSZ said it was still seized with the complaint made against Chirimuuta and had not made a decision on the matter in its meeting on January 22 this year.
“The council wishes to confirm that it is seized with the complaint made against Chirimuuta. The correct position, however, was that, the council deferred making any ruling on the matter pending the outcome of criminal investigations and proceedings on similar allegations,” the statement read.
Chirimuuta is being accused of paying himself curatorship fees before paying the employees terminal benefits from money raised after liquidating the estate.
The complaint on the matter was filed by lawyer Charles Nyika.
But Chirimuuta and Associates dismissed the claims that there was any theft of trust funds or unauthorised payments by the curator of Chikumbirike’s estate.
“Once again, we wish to re-assure the beneficiaries of the estate of the late GC Chikumbirike and family, our valued clients, regional development and consultancy partners, business associates, the legal fraternity, our families and friends and the public in general that our integrity remains unscathed and intact as always,” the law firm said.
