Voters’ roll inspection ends tomorrow: Zec

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) says Zimbabweans have until tomorrow to inspect or register − for those who had not done so and wish to vote in the 2018 harmonised elections.

Addressing a Press conference in the capital yesterday, Zec chairperson, Priscilla Chigumba said following the proclamation of the election date by President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday, aspiring voters had two more days to inspect the provisional voters’ roll and those who did not register, could do so in the same period.

“The amendment of section 26A of the Electoral Act means that registration of voters now closes two days after proclamation. It, therefore, means that the registration of voters for the purposes of the 2018 harmonised elections shall close on June 1, 2018. However, those that are going to register after the cut-off date will be considered for future elections,” she said. The Zec boss said the commission had contracted a regional company to supply and print voting material.

Chigumba said the amended Electoral Act now enabled Zec to create additional polling stations within the already approved ones.

“Amendment of section 22A of the Electoral Act to allow the commission to establish more polling stations for an area that has a large voter population; this will speed up polling on voting day,” she said.

  1. curse yourself if you did not register to vote or worse still failed to cross check the accuracy of your details with zec remember its now game on following proclamation of the date yesterday

    1. ZEC HAS FAILED ALL MOSTLY WITHIN THE AGES OF 40, WE HAVE THE SLIPS SHOWING THAT WE REGISTERED TO VOTE NOW OUR NAMES, ESPECIALLY KADOMA A TWO WEEKS RE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED HATISI MAROVA KA ISU TIRI KUMABASA. ZEC WILLINGLY DID REGAI VATONGE NDOZVAVONODA, MY NAME IS NOT THERE, I HAVE A SLIP, MAVA KUNDITI UNODZOKERA KWAWAKA REGISTIRA MUCHIZIVA KUTI TIME AND MONEY RESOURCES WILL NOT ALLOW, GOD WILL JUDGE YOU PRISCILLA

  2. But why did the amendment to the Electoral Act reduce the period of time that people can register. You used to be able to register all the way up to nomination day and now they have cut this period by up to 2 weeks, reducing the number of people who can register. Taking the power from voters just to rusch for an Elction which could still have been done upto 21 August!

  3. i do not knoew much aboout these issues but its all about ifs: Registrationis not complete, how can a copy of a voter’s be availed when registration for the 2018 elections is still on going? Instead i think MDCT should advise and campaign for its voter base to go and verify individually the accuracy and correctness of their information as captured by ZEC… missing this crucial period and not mobilising members to do the most crucial step needed to produce a credible voters’ roll will be regretted by both individuas and the party. Luke at wht ZANU PF is doing in its strong holds. If the registered voters do not inspect the voter’s roll, they are contributing to the production of a roll that can not be depended on. So a credible voters’ role begins with every voter: Guys- verify now where you are registered to vote so that there will be no surprises come 30July
