Police rigged polls: Mutsvangwa

Presidential adviser Chris Mutsvangwa has escalated his row with Zanu PF national political commissar, Engelbert Rugeje, claiming in a letter that his alleged electoral defeat in the Norton parliamentary primary elections was engineered by the police officers in charge of the polls.

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association chairman wrote to Rugeje on Wednesday claiming that the polls were held long after he had withdrawn from the race due to irregularities.

He confirmed authoring the letter when called by NewsDay yesterday.

“This letter is further to my cellphone call on May 2 to you Engelbert Rugeje-NPC [national political commissar] advising you that I was withdrawing from the polls. I unreservedly reject the results of the just held Zanu PF party polling in Norton. I also refuse to accept your announcement of Langton Mutendereki as the winner,” Mutsvangwa said.

He also cited the “unconstitutional use of the police” in an internal party election process, adding the police officers had rigged the polls by denying party members the right to vote.

“Of particular note is the fact that the cell register used for polling was illicitly compiled by Constance Shamu to solely further the illegal win of Langton Mutendereki. It is inconceivable that a politically active constituency such as Norton can only render less than 4 000 votes. I am busy collating evidence to back up the charges I have submitted,” Mutsvangwa said in the letter, which has gone viral on social media platforms.

Mutsvangwa’s letter came shortly after President Emmerson Mnangagwa roundly condemned his party for using the police in the party polls, saying he had not sanctioned their deployment.

Efforts to contact Rugeje for comment were fruitless, while Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo curtly said: “I have no comment on that matter.”

  1. What goes around comes around, Chris was so arrogant at last week’s elections debate, answering to concerns around fair elections with shocking sarcasm. It’s amazing how quick the Gods have made him have a taste of his own medicine

    1. Surprisingly Mutsvangwa is a special advisor to the President. With advisors like this. You don’t need enemies

    2. zanu is going to lose 2018 so i think chris has been saved from the biggest humiliation kkkkk

  2. how can they seem to condemn the use of police in party polls after these big chefs have lost? was it “constitutional” before Mutsvangwa lost? If we had complained that Zanu was abusing police, Mutsvangwa could have told us to take up arms and fight the military or to form our own police force to use in Mdc polls. Vapfidza, nguva yava yaMwari iyi. kana yaMwari yakwana munobaayana mega. read the Bible

  3. the pc must just order another round of elections and this time the loud mouth chris will be beaten hands down and if not by a wider margin

  4. Mutsvangwa we only needed you pakubvisa Mugabe chete. You are trash. The writing is on the wall any one who was sacked by Mugabe has no support of the people.

  6. Chris, for all your oratory skills, you also suffering from delusional paranoia. You seeing shadows in dark places on moonless nights! One, you say that you “withdrew” from the elections and informed the PC. So you were not part of the elections and therefore you cannot contest the election results, which you were not part of. Two, initially you said the “political novice“ PC Rugeje was responsible for your loss and you have opened your motor mouth again claiming the police (your own police) are responsible for your defeat. Oh wait a minute, before that you said it was the Shamu family and the G40 cabal working against your election. and before that, its was Temba Mliswa!!!! hahahaha

      1. hahahahhaha idi iroro…He even endorsed Chamisa himself.

  16. Those who took politics as a lifetime engagement should better think otherwise. Mugabe did the same for 38 years cumulatively before his acrimonious dismissal. Its time for generational change in leadership and the sooner Mutsvangwa and his comrades accept the will of the people and stop chasing a wild goose, the better. Its time to observe the global political trend and pave way for the public choices lest you defy and brace for a crushing defeat on the polling day. There is time for everything.

    1. Please leave Mugabe alone in your confusions and anxieties. Mugabe had duly started embarking on a smooth generational renewal process which was thwarted by the coup plotters gunslinger gangstaers as they foresaw and feared they had no place in the dispensation to emerge therefrom. Let’s not attack Mugabe whenever we have run out of facts or because we feel it’s fashionable. Mugabe is your past problem you claim to have effectively dealt with way back in November, so why would continue to be jittery about him.Tikwanirei(tsvaga anoukuturikira muchiSwahili). You are the same people who eulogize and glorify Mnangagwa but shall be found viciously attacking him after the July/August elections.

  17. My respect for this Mutsvangwa guy was clearly misplaced. We are trying to revive the party’s reputation and this man clearly is doing the opposite. Kana wadyiwa nyarara or if you have grievances don’t rush to the press rather discuss internally…… No no, this man needs to be taken aside in a silent corner and talked to.

  18. Im worried by the fact that ED did not snaction the use of ZRP on these primaries?! So who did? The military aspect in zanupf manuvres is not as co-ordinated as face value

  19. No wonder why politics should be left for the young, such a humiliating defeat for Chris can trigger stress, BP, stroke, mental disorder etc, its actually a health hazard for an old man

    1. Chris is a spoilt brat. He believes in politics of entitlement. He cant offer a single reason why he should have been voted for by his party’s members. His arrogance and motor mouth cost him big time! Politics of arrogance and entitlement belonged to the Mugabe and Mutasa eras. He should wake up and smell the coffee! He also have such a pedestrian and militaristic approach to understanding voter behaviour. Who had told him that all registered voters in the constituency were Zanu Pf members? Alternatively, how did expect every Zanu Pf member to vote in the primaries – was it compulsory!?

      1. Leave Mugabe alone. The old had already dismissed your one time motor mouth hero

  20. The audacity to write to your party commissariat using a govt letterhead/stamp & authority as special adviser to E.D is contemptous. You are all equal as card carrying zanupf members when it comes to primaries. You cant separate party & govt business. Yikho udliwe. You arrogance during election debate was nauseous

  21. Kkkkkkk – Cde Chris Mutsvangwa’s rantings are interesting, but equally need another possible reason why he and other so-called Zanu Pf heavy weights lost the primaries. Here is a theory I think is worth testing: ED is a real crocodile, ever cunning and scheming. Picture this – the majority of the heavyweights that fell are once well known Mugabe fellows – Mumbengegwi; Mushowe; Dinha; Mandipaka, Irene Zindi and others. You see, ED as a shrewd schemer, deliberately did not dump these people when he took over, playing for time, and could have then hatched a plan to see these men and women fall at Zanu Pf primaries! As for Mutsvangwa, the writing was on the wall when he was appointed, disappointed and then appointed to his current portfolio when ED took over. This tells us that the “stability” that ED achieved when he took over was only a ploy. Look, most of ED’s real guys sailed through easily: Douglas Mahiya; July Moyo; Energy Mutodi; Justice Wadyejena, etc. This is a theory – let’s interrogate it!

  22. Chris, Norton is 300 kilometers from Mutsvangwa area at Rusitu, Chimanimani. Maiguru Monica read the electoral map better than you, and sought to represent her people in Manicaland. Your arrogance and acute sense of entitlement is best suited for traditional leadership. Follow the example ex-Education Minister Chigwedere, and muscle your way into headmanship for Mutsvangwa area. Then you safe for life. No elections, no humiliation!

  23. Chris, you are confused and probably not aware of the contradictions in your complaints.
Why should you worry your lose since you had already pulled out of the contest??

  24. Zvaiwana ngwarati. Vakarambira pachigaro save vahwina paye vakuda kurambira futi kkkkk. Zimbo ukasaribatira mboma rokunyadzisa wakatemba.

  25. Mutsvangwa hahahahaha you are so confused brother, warohwaka nezveusiku. You don’t even know who to blame for your loss, the MDC, Rugeje, Police , Shamu family, G40, Gogo Tsvangirai aaaaah please. Just sit down baba Cyclone Chamisa is here to stay.
