MDC Alliance hails Zanu PF manifesto

THE Nelson Chamisa-led opposition MDC Alliance yesterday took an unusual step and, for the first time, hailed the ruling Zanu PF party’s 2018 election manifesto, saying it “speaks to people’s issues rather than the red-herring” continuously foisted on Zimbabweans over the past 38 years.

BY RICHARD CHIDZA

MDC Alliance spokesperson, Welshman Ncube told NewsDay that the opposition grouping was now fine-tuning its own manifesto to match Zanu PF blow-for-blow, ahead of the polls expected not later than end of August this year.

“What is beautiful this year is that for the first time in 38 years, Zanu PF has a manifesto that speaks to people’s issues rather than the red-herring that it has foisted on our people for nearly four decades, Ncube, who doubles as MDC party leader, said.

“Zanu PF has a manifesto that speaks to infrastructure, transformation of the economy, social delivery and the general issues that confront our people. They (Zanu PF) have made these their issues and they are our issues too,” he said.

“It will be now up to Zimbabweans to judge whether the old and tired personalities in Zanu PF can deliver or the energised opposition is the best vehicle to take this country to the next level.

“We welcome this new thrust and new political trajectory and are ready to fight for the people’s hearts and minds in the coming election. Zanu PF has a manifesto that speaks to people’s issues and we will match them. We are certain, however, that Zimbabweans will elect the MDC Alliance. We do not see how they can elect a tired leadership that has no clue as to how to implement even what is before its eyes.”

The MDC Alliance is an electoral bloc comprising seven opposition parties, namely Chamisa’s MDC-T, Ncube’s MDC, People’s Democratic Party, led by Tendai Biti, Transform Zimbabwe, led by Jacob Ngarivhume; Zimbabwe People First, led by Agrippah Mutambara, Zanu-Ndonga and Multi-Racial Democrats.

Ncube defended the alliance’s delays in launching its manifesto, saying: “We are working on two documents simultaneously, a detailed policy blue-print that will speak to the alliance’s thrust on a broad range of the country’s governance, economic, social and political direction we would want to take Zimbabwe should we win the elections.

“The manifesto will be an abstract brief of the policy document and without pre-empting it, we are looking at the major issues that our presidential candidate (Chamisa) has been talking about at our rallies — issues of infrastructure including roads, social delivery as well as the economy in a transformative environment.”

MDC-T national organising secretary Amos Chibaya, however, indicated that the alliance manifesto could be launched in two weeks.

“We will launch it after the primary elections. We are yet to confirm the venue, but it should be in Harare. The alliance will produce a manifesto that speaks to the people’s bread and butter issues,” he said.

  1. A rare break from the tradition. Lets learn to give the devil his due and subsequently try to outdo them through policy. Political competition does not imply enmity. All said and done, Zimbabwe remains our divergent views notwithstanding. Mature politics Ncube.

    1. This is political suicide! Welshman Ncube has openly contradicted Chamisa – remember Chamisa said the MDC Alliance would not unveil their manifesto for fear of having their ideas stollen by Zanu Pf!? What does this about turn by Welshman Ncube mean – that the MDC Alliance is now copying the Zanu Pf manifesto!? For the record, the MDC Alliance just does not have a leader.

      1. The competition is on ideas Mhofu and less or not on personalities. That is old politics dzekutukana idzo.Only two things matter…ideas and the country(Zimbabwe). Pamberi neZimbabwe!Zimbabwe first!

      2. YOU ARE LOST BROTHERMAN. ISU CHATINODA KUTI NYIKA IENDE MBERI KANA ZANU YAKUGONA CHII CHAKAIPA IPAPO

          1. IF, your descendants or Family tree is cursed of poverty and hunger, even if a political and a Leader who hails from the planet Mars, nothing gonna change for you!
You have to play your role as citizen of our motherland; to criticize for the sake of it.

          correct

      3. we will go nowhere if we still have people like you mhofu. recently chinga dube said even if zanu wins it will do well if it brings in a person like chamisa. was he campaigning against zanu no. he was saying what will be good for people. for me that is maturity. party politics introduced by zanu china Russia has made us suffer and promoted corruption. at present vp chiwengwa and war vets live in it.

        1. But, deleterious, satanic, ruinous economic sanctions imposed by the USA, EU, AND Great Britain did the greatest damage, albeit our dreaming opposition tries in vain to downplay their (sanctions) effect on the population.

There is monumental proof to show that our opposition goons do not know what is good for themselves- embracing economic sanctions was the greatest sin ever committed against their own brothers and sisters.

Hence, the adage ‘The price of a sin is death”. Those who invited sanctions on Motherland shall be judged in time to come will serve time in the ‘Gehena” until amen.

    2. Agree with you 100%. This is a sign of mature politics. A far cry from the insults Zimbabweans have hailed at each other in posts recently. There is one thing we all have to agree with and that it is up to us to make things right in our country. Only us. Let us learn to pick holes in each others arguments so that we come up with the best for our country.Once again bravo Ncube. As a Zimbabwean I have to say that I am very proud of this stance.

  2. That was good analysis Ncube. Politics is a game now that they have published theirs come up with the best.

  3. Manifesto’s, especially coming from zanupf, don’t mean anything, what is most important at the end of the day is implementation

    1. But, the MDC in the inclusive government virtually did nothing, except drawing their salaries and allowances without a shame.
They would defend themselves; saying they were not in complete control of the government. Yet, at the advent of the inclusive government their supporters celebrated taking control of “key” Ministries.

How people suddenly change to suit their egos? MDC-T Alliance or coalition and whatever they represent is simply a myth and mystery.
One hand they preach about prosperity, yet, on the end they support economic sanctions which make our economy scream so that people meet untold suffering in their daily lives.
      This completely dump founded me.

  4. I am having problems deciding who to vote for this year it looks like I may have to toss a coin HEADS-Chamisa. TAILS-Ed. I will add a small lead weight on the tails side though.Politics has never been this good.

kkkkkkkkk. I wonder whether Mugabe can se that he was the obstacle to excitement in our country. Cursed is the day he was born

  5. ED understands what zim requires in order to cross river Jordan. I admire him for being a
workhorse and less talkative, and oh yes he’s too calculative as well. That manifesto of his will make it difficult for the mdc alliance to come up with theirs.

  6. since it is a new dispensation personally I would suggest our leaders to agree on unit-gvt that comprises visionary both leaders experienced and energetic characterised by competency that yields development and well being of the nation. May God keep instilling spirit of togetherness in all parties leadership.

  7. This is not the first time Zanu Pf has come up with a brilliant manifesto. The problem is that it remains a manifesto and does not translate into anything positive.
Up to now we are at a stage where we do not have our own currency but the manifestos were being churned out at every election.

    1. We had a lot of them but after winning the elections Zanu PF behaves like a crocodile it catches its prey out of water and o`pulls it deeper disappearing in the deep waters and only appears when it is hungry , after winning the elections I don’t know if Zanu PF read their manifesto . They must walk the talk .

  8. Fellow Zimbabweans, zanupf without Zhuwawo, Jonso and Mugabe is different, ED will implement and deliver. Look at what ED did with Command Agriculture in one season and Jonso and Zhowawo were angry and called it Ugly culture. ED Chifinhu mirayi muone, cant wait to vote

  9. MDC IS GOING TO WIN THIS ELECTION THATS ALL

    1. inga wamwe wakudira ma facts wani, brax

  10. CHAMISA IS TOO CHILDISH ZVIMWE ZVAANOTAURA DOESNT MAKING SENSE

  11. My friend, ED is very old and he also talks things that don’t happen, so who is better

    1. NYENGETERAI MAZHAMBE

ed is cool and calculative less talkative and a man of action . command agric speaks volumes. Agriculture is one of those places where your effectiveness is quickly seen thats why most are offended coz results speak for themselves. like the man or not he has performed. GIVE HIM A FULL TERM AND SEE MORE RESULTS

  12. Its called civilisation!

  13. Mukwirivindi WaMazungunye

My country man and ladies, I have an idea to interrogate. Since there appears to hammony and ideas in all the political divide of our country, why don’t we avoid these divisive elections and just come up with a team that will lead us for the next five years. all we do is to invite a panel that will select the best national team of quality people to run our government. Of course some strategic posts will have to be given to strategic people. My proposition is the following team
Finance & economic Development Nkosana Moyo
Travel, tourism and entertainment Ministry Nelson Chamisa
    Home Affairs Tendai Biti
    Defence Constantino Chiwenga
    Foreign affairs Welshman Ncube
Legal & Parliamentary affair Douglas Mwonzora
    Education Paul Mavhima
    Mining Winston chitando
    Healthy Joyce Mujuru
    War Vets Tshiga Dube
    Internal security Dumiso Dabengwa
    Communication and It Morgan Komichi
    Youth and SMEs Joana mamombe
    President ED Munangagwa
    Deputy President B Moyo
    Women’s Affairs Thokozani Khupe

  14. Comment…president ani??? better ma election mazungunye

  15. kutaura kwamusina kuswera

  16. What a nice cabinet

  17. Comment…Big point Mazungunye. Bob was national curse, slowest learner, 38 years of waisted national history in reverse gear, of primitive political culture of “down with so and so, vane matumbu makuru”. Kudos to both ED and Chamisa for their more civilised politics. Whoever wins this time, neither of them appears prone to miss the forewad gear for national development. There is thus no justification for national, or investor, persimissim.

    1. NYENGETERAI MAZHAMBE

guys lets not compare Mugabe with these new guys. MUGABE was more of an international spokesperson who forgot to attend to domestic issues at home. Ndiani aitaurirana naye kumaworld forums ese kupaumba nokupaumba but handei kumba hapana chichabuda simba raperera musango achipopota. tHE new guys must be wary of this if they to amount to anything. Is it a crime to know that ED IS WINNING this election. Ndinoofarira kutsigira anohwina hangu kuitira kuti ndigofara zvamunoitavo kana team dzenyu dzebhora dzahwina

  18. Comment…But yo suggested ministerial allocations Mazungunye are simply outrageous, or at best random, But the proposal of GGNU, (Government of Genuine National Unity) is proper. Ko whats the problem, the ministries will this time simply be treated as braai meat pieces in dish. For alternating piece pickings by ZanuPF and the most succesful opposition party. Then the nation grants itself a good 10 years of practising real democracy and real patriotism characterised by at least individual’s eagerness to discharge ones tax obligations.

  19. Ko vanonzi vanhu vanofanirwa kuva pamudya ndigere vanhu vanemakore api?Uye zvinoitirwei?Kana uriwe irikutonga pamakore ose 38aya unodirei kuudza vanhu kuti tichakupai mabasa uye kuti mainvestors arikuuya iwe uchiti uripamasanctions?Zivai kuchinja maitiro enyu guys nguva iripo!

  20. E.D kk cz apfuura average life expectancy, what we are seeing in Chamisa is a great orator good at political activism and he z getting groomed to become another R.G luk at his ascendancy to power by demonising others same as RG to to Sithole back, we want politics of unity and tolerance, E.D also has both Chinese and Westerners Chamisa unfortunate for him he seems isolated as R G, ED z getting all the goodwil hands down.

  21. TIRED BETTER THAN IRELEVANT PARTY

  22. We are sick and tired of the old guards. They go several chances to deliver on their promises but they have always not delivered. This time around No. Whether Chamisa is dreaming or not, he’s a better candidate than these ruthless, corrupt geriatric killers. Pana Chamisa neMDC Alliance vote nga
