The three-month-old company owned by Farai Matsika, who has a passion for sport, is looking at establishing itself in the sports industry and has made the first steps engaging former Cheetahs players Danny Hondo and Jacques Leitao to test drive some of the vehicles in their showroom that, include the new Mazda BT50.

Former Sables wing Gerald Sibanda, who is the lifestyle consultant at the company, said they will soon be venturing into sport on two fronts.

“Our company has got sports background. Farai Matsika has been involved in sponsorship of the Warriors, and cricket,” Sibanda said.

“I am a rugby player and one thing I want is the improvement of players welfare. Our ambition as a company is to get involved in sport both as sponsors and the supply of vehicles and that is why we have invited established sports personalities to come and test drive some of our vehicles.

“They have driven around in the Mazda BT50, which is good for their lifestyle. We have business in the government and large corporates, so we want to establish ourselves in sport.

“We have a range of vehicles that suit sporting unions and players and there are facilities that they can access, which would enable them to get the cars even if they do not immediately have the money. So this is an opportunity we are hoping can help sports unions can take advantage of.”

Matsika was involved in cricket, where he was part of the Mash Eagles board and during his time at Croco Motors, he struck deals with Zimbabwe Cricket, which involved sponsorship of the organisation.

For years, the company was one of the main funders for ZC and his new organisation is looking to go that route.

The company is exploring the possibility of partnering the Zimbabwe Rugby Union.

Dealer principal at the company, Anna Matsika, confirmed that the organisation was ready to partner ZRU.

“Our boss has always involved himself in sport and here, we are looking at doing the same. Where our assistance is needed, we are good to go. We are not about vehicles alone, but we also want to give back as part of our corporate social responsibility,” she said.

“The company is likely to officially launch in July, but we have made a lot of progress in the three months that we have been in existence.”
