Amidu back on market

Abbas Amidu

A SCRAMBLE for striker Abbas Amidu in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is set to be triggered after the player was offloaded by his Egyptian club, Entag El-Hardy, after spending about nine months.

Amidu scored just one goal for the club which he joined in September last year from Caps United where he had made an impact in the Caf Champions League.

After Caps’ journey in the Champions League, Amidu attracted a lot of interest from clubs in Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

But after his short stint in Egypt, the forward is set to return home to relaunch his career and it is likely that the Green Machine will be looking to sign him again and there could also be interest from his former club Dynamos and Chicken Inn whose coach Joey Antipas has been moaning over the lack of quality strikers at his team.

According to, the 27-year-old was shown the exit door after failing to make an impression during the just ended Egyptian season.

Kingfut wrote that the club had announced the release of nine of their players namely Momen Gaber, Afrotto, Mohamed Mohsen Leila, Ahmed Sherwyda, Ahmed Saidy, Mohamed Essam, Ahmed El-Ish, Mohamed Khalifa and Abbas Amidu.

It further said that Amidu had failed to make an impression at the club where he scored a single goal for the military side.

The club has already written to Amidu and eight other players that are leaving the club thanking them for their contribution during the time they spent at the club.

Entag El-Hardy finished on 47 points having scored just 36 goals all season while they conceded as many to take position seven on the league table.

Amidu made nine appearances for the club with eight of them coming in the league matches, while he was called upon once in cup competitions.

In 15 of the 34 matches in the league, Amidu failed to make the squad while he made just three starts with five substitutes appearances.

Amidu has been called up to the Warriors squad that is set to prepare for the Cosafa cup finals to be staged in the Limpopo province of South Africa starting end of month.

It he makes the 23-member squad that will play at the finals he will give himself a perfect platform to start looking for a job. At some point he was the subject of interest from Tanzania, but he later decided against signing for that league.
