THE battle for former Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo’s Tsholotsho North seat has intensified with retired army officer, Sibangumuzi Khumalo and former MDC Senator Believe Gaule set to clash in the Zanu PF primary elections slated for May 5.

Khumalo, who is deputy board chairperson of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz), is being backed by war veterans in the area.
“We have opted for retired army general Khumalo. We have since agreed that we will support his candidature to be our MP. He is someone with an army background, he is a war veteran and we are fully behind him,” a war veterans district chairperson, Vumani Dube, said.
“We don’t celebrate the departure of anyone, Moyo was a hard worker to be honest, but his actions are the ones that took him where he is now. Remember, this is not the first time he has had problems with the party and now, again, he is in an almost similar scenario. Yes, he was a hardworker, but now he is gone there is nothing we can do, we just need to replace him, and in this case we are fully behind Khumalo,” he added.
Gaule, who once served as MDC Tsholotsho Senator, before rejoining Zanu PF, has also thrown his hat into the ring for the seat.
He, however, could not be reached for comment, although Dube said they had reservations over his candidature.
“We were together in forming the cell structures, but he ran away (to join MDC). He has no chance, wait and see when we get to the ground. We are just waiting for the campaign to be announced officially then you will see what stuff we are made off,” Dube said.
