A LUPANE-BASED beneficiary of the recent Presidential amnesty has landed himself a fresh 21-month jail term for unlawful entry and assault, after he went on a housebreaking spree soon after his release last month.

Mthandazo Dube of New Stands in Lupane was yesterday sentenced by Lupane magistrate Ndumo Masuku after he pleaded guilty to assaulting and stealing from Maria Sibanda.
It was the State case that on April 2, Sibanda arrived at her home from Lupane business centre and found her main door open. As she entered the house, she met Dube loitering in the passage carrying a torch and quizzed him.
Dube then slapped Sibanda on the face and fled the house.
On the same night, he broke into 19-year-old Taphela Dube’s house, but immediately dashed out after the latter screamed for help from neighbours.
Dube later broke into Eliphas Moyo’s home and stole a pair of shoes, leading to his arrest.
In mitigation, Dube told the court that he had resorted to criminal activities because he could not cope with the economic hardships and stigma from the community.
