Khupe makes way for Chamisa

DEFIANT former MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe has rescheduled the date for her faction’s extraordinary congress from April 7 to 21 after it emerged that the initial date coincided with her nemesis, Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance rally in Bulawayo.

BY RICHARD CHIDZA

In a statement yesterday, Khupe said: “All delegates, stakeholders and invited guests to the MDC-T extraordinary congress which had been scheduled for Saturday April 7, 2018 in Bulawayo, are, hereby, notified that this event has been postponed to April 21, 2018.

“The postponement has been necessitated by the coming to town of the MDC Alliance rally on the same date, whose presence naturally presents a security threat to the smooth running of our programme given the violence that took place in the very recent past.

We, therefore, urge our party members to go about their normal everyday business on this day.”

The MDC-T split into two for the second time inside four years in the wake of founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai’s death on Valentines’ Day this year, which triggered an acrimonious leadership battle between Khupe and Chamisa.

Chamisa won the battle of wits after convincing the party’s national council into appointing him as substantive head of the MDC-T, rejecting Khupe’s call for an extraordinary congress to choose new party leadership as “required by the party constitution”.

Khupe has been subjected to humiliating experiences, including assault by suspected Chamisa followers, who accused her of being a rebel after she openly defied national council resolutions and snubbed party programmes.

She was fired last month alongside suspended spokesperson, Obert Gutu, organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe, shortly after national chairman, Lovemore Moyo had resigned .

  1. Your headline is misleading at best. Why not just state what your article actually says, that Khupe postpones Congress for fear of violence from MDC Alliance youths? Khupe is not making way for Chamisa but just trying to avoid violent encounters and lawlessness as experienced in the past.
We as Zimbabweans should shun violence, lawlessness and unconstitutionality.
    True leaders speak up.

    1. were they going to use the same venue….kikiki, just asking.Nd I wonder who the “DELEGATES” are

      1. Umkhonto ka Shaka

Even if they were using different venues, Chamisa would still send his drugged morons to cause chaos as was the case when bussed hararians unleashed terror at MDC Byo offices when Tsvangirai was having a rally somewhere in Mashonaland.

  2. Stop living a lie Khupe. If you can’t change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails. You are fighting a losing battle.

  3. Sithokozile Ncube

No security reasons there, obviously people would attend Chamisa’s rally with well articulated points and eloquent speaking than listening to ka-te-go-ti-ka-ri being used in a wrong sentence.

  4. Comment…Niyanya mashona vele akulunganga konke okwenziwa nguChamisa owanitshela ukuthi amandebele awabusi ngubani ngoba nibulele ilizwe thina kusabusa uNkomo konke kwakulungile yonke into yayikhona nehlulekile anikhoni kubusa

  7. Sizawabona amalema esiyachanyiswa lishona labo leli, thina amanguni sihambaba lawe maKhupe futhi akujiki. They will be surprised to discover how much following you have, we preparing to come to congress

  8. Umkhonto ka Shaka

Khupe should just not cause confusion

  9. U Khuphe kenzanga kuhle ngoba yena wakhohlwa ukuthi uyinational leader when she agued ngama terms of the alliance. She was supposed to let regional leaders argue about and to snub all gatherings was not cold for. Wahle wazikhipha.

  10. Khupe gone potty. The love of power is dangerous. She should ask Grace.

  11. Bulawayo is mature on the Khupe issue. I can see they will never used by a faction that wishes to divide them when they fought for two decades for the removal of a dictator.
Khupe must go back to Chamisa. Vice presidency is a very high post in Zimbabwe. If she feels unsatistified by the post, aaah there is nothing Zimbabwe can do about it.

    1. Comment…Pride killing khupe there at times when u should stop fighting a loosing war

  12. Khupe should learn to think on her own. it is apparent that there is someone behind her, influencing her to behave in a primitive way. otherwise she will bite the ground soon if she keeps on misbehave.KHUPE BE WARNED, GET DOWN WITH CHAMISA, SWALLOW PRIDE AND UNITE. you have already failed to take the power, Chamisa is the legend and can move the country fowrd even without you.

  13. We have all witnessed the coattails effect Chamisa exhibits . Khupe should probably consider fence mending and consolidate the Droop quota. Should this bickering spill over to election period then we will have lots of donkey votes and that dreaded demagogue ED will steal the election.Food for thought….
